Community Connect helps Temple students find student organizations. We collect as little as we can get away with, and this page describes exactly what that is in plain language. Community Connect is an independent, student-built project and is not an official Temple University service. Temple University has not reviewed or approved this site.
The short version
- You can use the quiz, your results, and the directory without making an account.
- We do not ask for your Temple ID, your student record, or your grades, and we have no access to any Temple system.
- We do not run advertising or third-party tracking pixels, and we do not sell your information.
- If you want your data deleted, email us and we will delete it.
Anonymous discovery session
The first time you take an action on the site (starting the quiz, saving an organization, and so on), we create a random session identifier and store it in a cookie named cc_session. That identifier is a random value. It is not your name, your email, or your Temple ID, and by itself it does not tell us who you are.
Tied to that session identifier, we store:
- Your quiz answers — the interests, goals, commitment level, group preference, and availability you select.
- Your organization actions — which organizations you save, mark as interested, or skip.
- Product analytics events — lightweight records that a page or recommendation was viewed and that a link was clicked (for example an Instagram link, a join link, or a contact email link), with a timestamp.
If you clear the cookie, we lose the connection to that session, which also means your saved organizations and quiz answers will no longer appear on this device.
Optional accounts
You can optionally create an account so your saves follow you between devices. Accounts are handled by Supabase Auth, using either Google sign-in or an email magic link. If you sign in, we store:
- Your email address.
- Your display name, if your sign-in provider gives us one (for example your Google account name).
- A Temple email address, only if you choose to type one in. This field is currently not verified — we do not check it against any Temple system, and it does not prove enrollment or unlock anything.
When you are signed in, your account is linked to your discovery session so your quiz answers and saves stay with you.
Organization submissions
Student organizations can be added to the directory by an organization representative. A submission has two parts:
- Public listing information — the organization’s name, category, description, interests, meeting times, commitment level, whether it is recruiting, and any links or public contact email provided. This is shown publicly on the site.
- Private submitter information — the name and email of the person who submitted the listing. This is not shown publicly. We use it to verify a listing, ask follow-up questions, and handle edit or removal requests.
If you are a student organization and you want your listing changed or removed, email us and we will take care of it. See our Terms of Use for more on listings.
Why we collect it
- Matching — your quiz answers are used to rank and recommend organizations for you.
- Discovery — your saves, interests, and skips power your saved list and keep you from being shown the same thing over and over.
- Aggregate launch metrics — we count things like how many people finished the quiz and which organizations get the most interest, so we can tell whether this is worth continuing and which organizations to recruit. We look at these numbers in aggregate, not to profile individual students.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.
Who processes your data
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Quiz answers, saves, analytics events, submissions, and account records are stored there.
- Vercel — our hosting provider. Vercel serves the site and, like any web host, processes standard request information such as IP address and browser user agent in order to deliver pages and protect the service.
- Vercel Web Analytics — if enabled on our deployment, this records aggregate page-view counts. It is designed to be privacy-light: it does not use advertising cookies and does not track you across other websites.
Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy terms. We do not send your information to anyone else.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies and no advertising or cross-site tracking pixels. The full list is on our Cookie Policy page.
How long we keep it
We keep the information described above for as long as we operate this service, so that your saves and recommendations keep working. The cc_session cookie itself is set to expire after about 180 days.
We will delete your data on request, and if we shut the project down we will delete the data we hold rather than transfer it to someone else.
Deletion and questions
Email jtrump1348@gmail.com and tell us what you want removed — your quiz session and saves, your account, or an organization listing you submitted. We will confirm what we deleted. Because anonymous sessions are not tied to a name, it helps if you email us from the device you used, or include the details of the listing in question.
Children
This site is built for Temple University students and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
This is a new project and the way it works may change. If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
